Manipur To Start Palm Oil Cultivation Soon

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, on Tuesday, said that palm oil cultivation would soon begin in the state and the same should be discussed and analyzed properly.

Singh said this while addressing a one-day national workshop on the promotion of palm oil cultivation in the state capital which was organized with a motive to discuss and spread awareness that how harmless palm oil cultivation is.

The Manipur CM also responded to the queries that palm oil cultivation might degrade the soil quality.

He said that along with palm oil plantations, other crops like pineapple and coffee can also be grown adding, ''India is the largest importer of edible oil in the world.''

Singh further asserted that the Palm Oil Project in the state was virtually inaugurated on 12 November 2020.

''An area of 66,652 hectares has been identified for palm oil cultivation in six districts of Manipur,'' he informed.

According to him, wrong apprehensions in the minds of people regarding the adverse impact of palm oil cultivation, have delayed the expansion of projects.
